Improve Etsy listing SEO with Claude

Paste an existing listing into Claude and get specific improvements to title, tags and description to rank better in Etsy search.

Last checked 22 October 2026

What you'll make

A revised Etsy listing — title, tags and description — optimised for Etsy search. Instead of guessing what keywords to use, you'll have a structured set of changes with reasons for each one.

What you need

  • A Claude account
  • An existing Etsy listing that isn't performing well (or a new listing you're about to publish)
  • 20 minutes

Steps

  1. Paste your current listing into Claude and ask for an SEO audit:
Here is my current Etsy listing:

Title: [paste current title]
Tags: [paste current 13 tags]
Description: [paste current description]
Category: [your category]

This listing gets [rough views per week] views and [rough sales per month] sales.

Analyse this listing for Etsy search SEO and tell me:
1. Which of the 13 tags are strong (specific, searched by buyers) and which are weak (too broad, redundant, or rarely searched)
2. Whether the title uses the most important keywords in the first 40 characters
3. Whether the description repeats the main keywords naturally in the first paragraph
4. Any missed keyword opportunities based on the product category

Don't rewrite anything yet — just analyse and explain.
  1. Ask Claude to rewrite the tags:
Now give me a new set of 13 tags. Rules:
- Each tag must be under 20 characters (Etsy's limit)
- Use all 13 slots — no wasted slots
- Mix of broad (category-level) and long-tail (specific) tags
- Don't repeat the same word across multiple tags (Etsy only counts the first instance)
- Prioritise tags a buyer would actually type in the search bar

For each tag, tell me why you chose it and which type of buyer search it targets.
  1. Ask Claude to rewrite the title:
Rewrite the title to put the most important keywords first. Rules:
- First 40 characters should contain the top 2–3 keywords
- Read naturally — not a keyword stuffed list
- Keep it under 140 characters
- Include the product type, main material or feature, and one use-case

Give me the new title and explain what changed and why.
  1. Ask Claude to improve the description:
Rewrite the description to improve SEO and conversion. Rules:
- First paragraph: repeat the main keywords naturally, tell the buyer what the product is in plain language
- Second paragraph: key features as bullet points
- Third paragraph: one use-case or gift angle
- Fourth paragraph: shipping or materials info if relevant
- Don't keyword stuff — write for a human reading it

Keep the same factual details (materials, dimensions, shipping times). Only change the wording and structure.
  1. Update your Etsy listing with the new title, tags and description. Wait 2–3 weeks, then compare views and search impressions to the previous period.

Check your result

  • All 13 tag slots are used, each under 20 characters, with no repeated words across tags
  • The title's first 40 characters contain your most important keywords
  • The description reads naturally to a human — no awkward keyword stuffing
  • You can explain why each change was made, not just that Claude suggested it

If Claude suggests tags that feel wrong for your product (too generic or misleading), trust your judgement. You know your product better than the AI. Keep the tags that match what buyers actually search for your specific item.
